Mazin Saffou, Editorial Assistant

By Press Staff Date: April 10, 2018

Mazin joined the team in June 2017. Since then, he's been taking on a variety of our editorial tasks in our rapidly-growing publishing program. In his own words:

I am an editorial assistant at U of R Press to the acquisitions team and the managing editor. As an intern I have been given the opportunity to develop my skills in all vital areas: preparing manuscripts for peer review and design, proofreading, securing copyright permissions, marketing, author correspondence, writing letters of support for our authors, securing “blurbs” for promotion, and preparing jacket and catalogue copy. For a recent graduate of the University of Regina, the Press provides a wonderful opportunity to work with an innovative and creative team who is passionate about the humanities and literature. For me literature and knowledge and the stories we tell about ourselves are central to shaping our world for the better. My background is in Film and English, and I hold an MA in Media Studies. My MA thesis focused on the critically-acclaimed television series, The Wire. I love reading, short story writing, art, music, travelling, and the cinema. I am inspired by the works of Gabriel García Márquez, Haruki Murakami, Toni Morrison, Yann Martel, Neil Gaiman, and Marjane Satrapi.
