Cloud Physics Wins Raymond Souster Award!

By Press Staff Date: April 10, 2018 Tags: awards, Oskana

We at the Press send our warmest congratulations to Karen Enns, whose latest poetry collection, Cloud Physics, has won the League of Canadian Poets (LCP) Raymond Souster Award

The second collection of poetry in our Oskana Poetry & Poetics series, Cloud Physics ranges over endings of many kinds: cultural, ecological, and personal. And yet, Enns's poems are replete with affirmations of love, of music and language, and of our rootedness in place and history.

Honouring Raymond Souster, an early founder of the LCP, this award is given for an outstanding book of poetry by a League member.

Praise for Cloud Physics

“Personal and remote, cool and exacting, mysteriously exciting, like a top skier these poems cut their own tracks.” Gary Snyder, Pulitzer Prize–winning author of Turtle Island

"The poems in Cloud Physics need to be listened to as much as read. These are poems informed by music as well as by language. Bells, wind chimes, waves, whispers, medieval chants and orbital winds are part of an untethered longing. There is a sense, in this book, of something loosed--of a fine mind taking in the world and giving back to us something we didn't know we knew." Eve Joseph, author of In the Slender Margin

"A compassionate voice is here at play within a world that is both uncanny and beautiful." Tim Lilburn, Governor General's Award in Literature and author of Kill-Site and Assiniboia

"The world Karen Enns gives us is larger than we know, revealing a spaciousness we imagined gone. Here is a resonant, fearless voice." Anne Simpson, author of Is, Quick, and the Griffin Poetry Prize winner, Loop
